February 2016: Jessy Kurczewski is released from prison and begins helping her family friend, Lynn Hernan.

June 2016: Lynn’s money market account starts seeing large withdrawals in consecutive months.

September 28, 2018: Lynn Hernan was released from a two week stay in the hospital with orders to get full time home health care. 

October 3, 2018: Jessy Kurczewski called 911 after finding Lynn Hernan dead in her home. First responders suspected this was a suicide or accidental overdose of prescription medication.

January 2019: The toxicology tests from Lynn’s autopsy came back showing tetrahydrozoline poisoning. This is the redness-reducing decongestant found in eye drops. 

March 2019: The police speak with Jessy Kurczewski and her mother Jenny. In a followup email, Jessy wrote that she had a hard time believing Lynn had taken her own life. 

July 9, 2019: Jessy was arrested for a parole violation related to her original fraud cases. She was interviewed by police six times in the following days and her story regarding Lynn’s death continued to change. 

June 4, 2021: The day before Jessy was to be released for her parole violation, she was charged with Lynn Hernan’s murder and two theft counts: one for money stolen before Lynn’s death and one for stealing from the estate.

October 2023: Jessy Kurczewski’s trial began.

November 14, 2023: The jury found Jessy Kurczewski guilty on all counts. 

November 26, 2023: A friend of Jessy Kurczewski received a packet of forged documents purportedly from Jessy. The packet included instructions on how to fake a notary seal on the documents that exonerated Jessy.

December 7, 2023: Jessy Kurczewski’s attorneys withdrew from the case on the day of sentencing. 

April 5, 2024: Jessy Kurczewski was sentenced to 30 years to life on the murder charges and 10 additional years for the theft charges to be served consecutively.
