December 31, 1998: David Temple spent the weekend with his girlfriend Heather Scott while his wife, Belinda Temple, thought he was on a hunting trip.
January 5, 1999: Heather suggested she and David end their inappropriate relationship as he was married with a child and another on the way.
January 8, 1999: David Temple told Heather Scott he was falling in love with her and she said she reciprocated those feelings.
January 11, 1999
11:40a: Belinda received a phone call that her son was sick at daycare.
12 noon: Belinda picked her son up at daycare and drove him home.
11:55a-12:11p: Belinda called David repeatedly to have him come home to watch their son.
12:35p (approx): David Temple arrived home and Belinda returned to work.
3:30p: Belinda’s afterschool meeting ended.
3:32p: Belinda called David and said she was on her way home. She stopped briefly at her in laws’ house to pick up soup.
3:45-4p: Belinda arrived home
4:30p (approx): Three neighborhood boys heard a loud bang. Another neighbor saw a truck backfire around the same time.
4:35p: A car of teenagers sped through the neighborhood.
4:38p: David and his son left the grocery store according to CCTV.
4:55p (approx): David’s old high school friend saw him driving in an area he said he hadn’t been.
5:14p: David and his son entered the Home Depot. They were not seen on camera leaving.
5:25p: A neighbor saw David pull into the family garage and his son was not in a carseat.
5:35p: David knocked on a neighbor’s door to tell them he suspected a breakin and for them to call 911.
5:49p: First responders arrived on the scene and found Belinda Temple dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.
June 2002: David Temple and Heather Scott marry.
November 30, 2004: David Temple was arrested for the murder of Belinda Temple
October 16, 2007: The trial began.
November 15, 2007: David Temple was found guilty
July 2015: David Temple won his appeal based on a Brady violation.
July 8, 2019: David’s Temple’s second trial began.
August 6, 2019: David was found guilty of murder again. When the jury could not agree on a sentence, a mistrial was declared for the punishment phase only.
April 2023: A new sentencing hearing was held. David Temple was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility at 30 years. He will be eligible in June of 2040 at the age of 72.
