December 26, 2008: After 10 or 11 years together, off and on, Heather Strong and Josh Fulgham married.

January 6, 2009: Josh was arrested for aggravated assault after Heather told the police he pointed a gun at her and threatened her life. 

February 6, 2009: Josh was released from pretrial detention after Heather stopped pursuing the charge against him. 

February 15, 2009: Heather left work, telling her coworkers something was going on with the children. This was the last time anyone heard from her.

February 24, 2009: Heather’s cousin reported her missing to the police. Given the time that lapsed since anyone had seen Heather, the case was soon sent to the homicide detectives. 

March 18, 2009: After repeatedly telling the police that Heather left him with custody of the children, Josh finally admitted to knowing where Heather’s body was. He directed them to the property of his girlfriend Emilia Carr’s mother. 

March 19, 2009: Heather’s remains were recovered. Emilia denied knowing anything about the circumstances.

March 24, 2009: In a recording conversation with Josh Fulgham’s sister, Emilia Carr admitted she helped Josh kill Heather. She was immediately arrested.

December 7, 2010: Emilia Carr was convicted of first degree murder and kidnapping. The jury recommended the death penalty in a vote of 7-5.

February 17, 2011: The judge accepted the jury’s recommendation and sentenced Emilia to death row. 

April 2012: Josh Fulgham went on trial. He was found guilty of first degree murder and kidnapping. The jury recommended life in a 8-4 ruling and the judge sentenced him accordingly. 

2016: A ruling in Hurst v. Florida required the state to resentence Emilia Carr. Rather than go through the time and expense of another penalty trial, they resentenced her to life in prison.

Emilia Carr maintains her innocence.
