My thoughts:

When I come across a true crime case I want to cover on the podcast, I ask myself a few questions about it before it gets put on the schedule. The most important one is “why?” Why am I telling this story? What is the value to the listener, beyond the interest of hearing about people’s lives?

Covering a case just because I need an episode that week or the story has some sensational factor is not an acceptable answer for me anymore. I came to this place after listening to the victims’ families. They aren’t calling for me to end my podcast but rather to consider them as I’m choosing cases and presenting them.

I need a reason to elevate the case to the public and this case has two of those factors. One is the legal issue of hearsay. We know the definition of hearsay but hearsay is not always inadmissible. We talk a little about that in this episode.

But the real reason is to take a hard look at a case where multiple knew disaster was ahead and at best they ignored it. At worst. they tried to participate in it. We never know when that person will be us, the one with the power to stop a crime before it happens. We need to speak up, even when it’s against someone we love.

Thank you so much for listening!

When a key witness refused to testify against a defendant, the entire case was in jeopardy until the prosecutors found a new angle to take.

This case is *solved*
